Episode 2 — The Coconut Vendor

Read comic · ← Blog

Episode 2 is the vendor boundary episode. Richie — coconut tier in Damo dialect, never named in-panel — owes roughly twenty original C64 tapes from a lost shipment. Instead of a straight make-good, the arc kept veering toward cheap £3 games plus postage, wrong cables, and a £75 cart nobody asked for.

Richie wanted a picture of the C64C cable. Damo didn't send a blurry phone snap. He sent a 262° U-shape 8-pin DIN pinout — composite on pin 4, ground on pin 2 — with enough forensic accuracy to end the Mega Drive / breadbin 5-pin confusion permanently. That's not pettiness. That's documentation as self-defence.

The actual pinout (for Richie)

C64C 8-pin DIN 262-degree pinout — composite pin 4, ground pin 2, NOT breadbin 5-pin, NOT Mega Drive
C64C 8-pin DIN (262° U-shape) — viewed from the rear of the port. For RetroScaler / composite: Pin 4 + Pin 2 GND. S-Video: Pin 1 Y + Pin 6 C + Pin 2 GND. Pin 8 is +5V — do not short. NOT breadbin 5-pin. NOT Mega Drive 270° DIN. He asked for a pic. Chief delivered a war crime in orange and black.

Refs if you're wiring your own: C64-Wiki AV socket · Project64 AV cable · radagast community pinout threads. Twenty tapes + correct cable. Or no deal.

FUCKEN. Not FUCKWIT.

The strip's whole energy is precision under frustration. Damian — not Dee, unless Richie is cosplaying again — holds the line: twenty games owed, correct cable, or no deal. Derek (Richie's mate) eventually confirmed what Damo already knew: self-absorbed vendor pattern, not a one-off misunderstanding. Boundaries held. Wallet closed until receipts improve.

Damo

Damo

Coconut = polite dialect for a tier of vendor chaos. Pinout diagram = ammo. He asked for a pic; I shipped C64-Wiki energy with radagast receipts. Last year's game photo for dupe-check, not a new batch — still waiting. Graceful, firm, no £75 cart.

Outtake → v2 remaster

The first Ep 2 draft was Mad Magazine tier — different cast energy, wrong species of hobbit, feral social footer. It's preserved on outtakes because retconning history is boring. The v2 remaster matches Episode 1 style: same Damo, same Kersey, same coconut shelf still stocked in the Command Centre for… reasons.

Kersey

Kersey

He wanted a photo. You delivered DIN connector taxonomy at produce-section accuracy. The coconut remains on the shelf as a warning label. When someone says "just send me a pic," they might get a whole technical manual. Consider yourself notified.
